With
an elevation of 4,500 feet, Sedona enjoys four distinct seasons, with none too
extreme (okay, maybe midday temps in July and August). The mild climate makes
it a paradise for lovers wishing to get married, outdoorsy folks who love to hike
and others who just plain crave the outdoors (you may find, like I did, that I
fall into all of these categories!).
- In
the winter (Nov-Feb),
daytime temperatures rarely drop below 40 degrees. The only disadvantages to a
winter visit are that the days are shorter which reduce the amount of time for
outdoor activities, and the fact that some lodges in Oak Creek Canyon close for
the season. And yes, while its hard to believe, it even snows in Sedona
although it usually melts right away, leaving only a beautiful scattering of snow
on the red rocks.
- Spring
(Mar-May) in Sedona is simply magnificent.
With average high temps ranging from 63 81 degrees, its the perfect
time to enjoy all that this magical land has to offer.
- Now,
a little bit about summer.
Dont let what others may have told you about Arizona summers scare
you as even the morning and evening temps sink to the 50s and 60s
making the majority of the day mostly enjoyable. Even during the hottest day in
July, the mornings and evenings are very comfy and a good time for a wedding.
One thing to keep in mind is that Sedonas rainy season begins in mid-July
and is known as the monsoon period which usually ends in September.
- Due to its wonderful temps,
fall (Sep-Oct) and spring are the two busiest seasons in Sedona
so weekends during these months can make getting a hotel reservation a bit of
a challenge. Be sure to plan your visit in advance.
