Sedona, known as
the Red Rock Country, has much to offer you during your visit. Probably the hardest
decision youll make is determining what to do! Engulfed within the 1.8 million-acre
Coconino National Forest, Sedonas scenic red rocks formations take center
stage. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, Sedona is a four season playground and
has over a hundred hiking and mountain biking trails. Check out the hikes
& tours for more information. Beyond the red rocks, there are many
other fantastic things to do and see during your visit from sightseeing, shopping,
dining and more. Below is a sampling of the things you might like to do while
in Sedona.
- The
Sedona Trolley is a scenic and informative way to experience many of
the cities main attractions. There are two different tours available throughout
the day: each narrated and approximately 55 minutes. As an added bonus, scheduled
pick-ups are available from several of the area hotels. The trolleys are also
available for weddings which is a neat unique way to transport guests to
and from various wedding events.
- Nestled
in the middle of two large red rock formations is the Chapel
of the Holy Cross. Designed by sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude
(a student of Frank Lloyd Wright), this contemporary Catholic chapel has 360 degree
views. Over 25,000 tons of rock were removed without using a single piece of dynamite.
It took eighteen months to complete, cost only $300,000 to build and was completed
in 1956. Weddings are not permitted.
- Tlaquepaque
was modeled
after a small Mexican village and is the home to over 40 shops, restaurants and
art galleries. Noted for its architectural features and preservation of its natural
habitat during construction, there are beautiful gardens, fountains and a wedding
chapel (yes, they allow weddings!). Throughout the year, there are numerous events
held at Tlaquepaque. One of the events is the Festival of Lights which takes place
every December. Over 6,000 luminaries adorn the courtyards and staircases while
musicians, carolers, and dancers perform adding to the holiday spirit.
